Advanced taste evaluation in research activities

Within the  Palestine Technical University-Kadoorie (PTUK), the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technology aims to achieve leadership and creativity in agricultural technical science and education. This department prepares graduates who have scientific and practical competence in line with the latest technological developments.

 

The e-tongue to support research works on food and medicines

Always keen to be at the cutting-edge of technology, the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technology equipped with ASTREE electronic tongue in 2016. The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technology has conducted many research works on a variety of food products and medicines.

  • Testing the taste of herbal medicines plants mixtures [1].
  • Pathogenic bacteria analysis [2,3].
  • Assessing drug taste deterioration of an oral paediatric suspension [4].

 

Prof. Nawaf Abu-Khalaf, Prof. in Agricultural and Biological Engineering at PTUK, had already worked with an electronic tongue during his PhD in Denmark. That’s why, after joining the PTUK, he wanted to acquire an electronic tongue for a project related to agricultural and biological applications. Now Dr Nawaf Abu-Khalaf supervises several students’ work within the master’s degree programs or PhD. He comments: “We wanted our students to be trained on the latest technologies because we think that sensory analysis instruments can bring valuable insights into food and environmental sustainability, and it does .”
