Alpha MOS partners with Sony, a pioneer in senses’ digitization, to market their new NOS DX1000 Olfactometer designed for smell evaluations.
This device allows to achieve fast, easy and reliable odor assessment for expert panel training and routine testing as well as consumer tests.
Main features
Quick display of odorants: with high sealability and the ability to strengthen odor intensity, each 0.6 mL cartridge of odorant provides enough material for hundreds of tests. Just by selecting the odorant you want to present on the tablet, you can immediately present it. The test proceeds automatically with on-screen guidance, reducing examiner workload and shortening testing time. Subjects can perform the tests independently with minimal instruction.
Reproducible testing conditions: by setting the distance from the nose and the duration of odor release, it is possible to present the odorant more accurately and consistently than when presented manually. This makes it easy to compare and review test results, even when the test facility or the tester is different.
No odor leakage and contamination: the device displays a defined amount of odorant precisely. The deodorizing 
mechanism built into the main unit prevents odor contamination in the room.
Easy operation and recording: the dedicated application makes it easy to customize the odorants presentation, including how to present and create quizzes. It also enables easy viewing and recording of results as well as data transfer.
Compact and mobile size: small and easily transportable, the olfactometer does not require dedicated facilities or rooms and can be easily used in a variety of locations.
Sustainable materials: several parts of the device and consumables use odorless and environmentally friendly materials made of recycled products.
Use Cases and Applications
NOS DX1000 olfactometer is a fast, easy, and reliable odor evaluation device that ensures reproducible, leak-free testing, traceable measurements, and customizable programs for both expert panels and consumers tests.
It offers several test templates that can be customized with the odorants and settings of your choice to meet all your needs:
Training Mode
You can build your own library of odorants and reference materials (characteristic notes, defects, etc). The tester will select an odor within the customized libray and learn to memorize it
Quiz Mode / Blind Test / Identification Test
Upon launching the test, an odor is released. The tester has to find the right one among several propsitions, then can check the correct answer in the app.
Discrimination Test / Triangular Test
Several odors are released consecutively.
The tester is asked to find the one different from the others.
Preference Tests
One or several odors are released consecutively. The tester is asked to rate his/her appreciation on a scale. The app makes it possible to export a large number of participants’ answers.
